Webinar #30 in the RECLAIM Network Webinar Series took place on the 6th November 2024.

Webinars will share best-practice and facilitate knowledge exchange between practitioners, researchers, policymakers, businesses, environmental groups, charities and individuals interested in implementation of green-blue-grey infrastructure for making our vulnerable living spaces more healthy, sustainable and resilient.

Carl McClean
International Development Manager for the Green Flag Award, Keep Britain Tidy

Title of the talk:
“Safer Parks: Improving Access for Women and Girls’

Biography :   
Carl is an experienced horticulturalist and landscape manager. After 8 years serving as a local authority parks manager in North East England, he now travels the world for the Green Flag Award and has supported parks departments in over 20 countries to improve the quality of their green spaces. During his 6 years at Keep Britain Tidy he has tripled the number of Green Flag Award winners outside the UK to 260 and launched the programme to 10 new countries. He holds a BSc Honours in Horticulture with Landscape Management and is currently Chair of the World Urban Parks Europe Region Committee.


Dr Jim Parker
Reader, Leeds Sustainability Institute, Leeds Beckett University

Title of the talk:
“Small Urban Park Environments and Residents: Characterising the atmospheric benefits of small urban parks in the context of neighbourhood access and user motivation”
 

Biography:
Dr Parker
specialises in building energy modelling and the urban environment. He manages externally funded research projects, collaborates with industrial partners and supports undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students. Dr Parker has been involved in a broad range of research projects, including detailed modelling of domestic and non-domestic buildings, in both retrofit and new-build scenarios. His work has also expanded to cover environmental monitoring in urban environments, with a particular focus on urban heat islands, air quality and the impact of urban green space.
