This animation highlights a RECLAIM Network funded project by the University of Surrey which focused on evaluating the multifunctional benefits of GBGI against heatwaves, drought, flood, and noise.

Knowledge Exchange Visit

Dr Daniel Green, an Assistant Professor of Nature Based Solutions at Heriot Watt University has begun his RECLAIM Network funded short knowledge exchange visit with Royal Botanical Gardens Edinburgh.

Dr Daniel Green speaking ahead of his visit:

‘I am taking up this RECLAIM Network Plus Knowledge Exchange visit to get a wider appreciation of the benefits of urban green infrastructure, first-hand. As a hydrologist, I am often focused (possibly even tunnel versioned!) on the flood risk management benefits of urban green infrastructure. Working with colleagues at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) is particularly fascinating as it allows me to get a more holistic understanding of the multiple benefits of green infrastructure, particularly the Biodiversity and Public Amenity value. Additionally, I am keen to establish long-term, mutually beneficial collaborations with the RBGE team – the RECLAIM Network Plus funding was a logical first step in formalising our ideas and paving the next steps’.

Knowledge Exchange Visit

Dr David Fletcher, an academic working at UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, with expertise as a spatial analyst and modeller, and developing ecosystem services models has begun his RECLAIM Network funded short knowledge exchange visit with Portsmouth City Council.

Speaking ahead of his visit David commented;

This exchange visit with PCC will further my understanding of the very different nature of evidence needs on a day-to-day basis in a city council environment. This understanding can help shape the development of decision tools such as the City Explorer Toolkit (https://www.ceh.ac.uk/city-explorer), but will also have wider ramifications in terms of understanding the opportunities, the constraints and the mechanisms for delivery of GBGI within densely populated cities. Portsmouth is a city with very little spare space, so learning how to maximise GBGI under such constrained conditions will be incredibly valuable'

🌍 Join the NetworkNature EU+ Taskforces on Nature-based Solutions in Fostering Inclusive Engagement in Co-creating Nature-based Solutions (NbS)!

📜 They are inviting you to participate in a short survey aimed at achieving truly inclusive engagement in the co-creation of nature-based solutions (NbS). This survey is part of NetworkNature EU’s NbS Task Force 6 on Co-creation and Governance.

❔ Why Your Input Matters: Nature-based solutions can inadvertently reinforce existing inequalities and marginalize some stakeholders if not guided by principles of justice and inclusivity. The aim is to gather your experiences and insights to identify successful strategies, critical challenges, and lessons learned in meaningfully engaging commonly excluded stakeholders in NbS co-creation processes.

❓ Who Are 'Commonly Excluded Stakeholders'? These are social groups with a high interest in or who are significantly affected by NbS but are unable or unwilling to participate meaningfully due to personal factors, procedural injustices, or structural inequalities. Their exclusion can be due to various barriers, including biased processes and lack of transparency, and broader socio-economic and political conditions.

❔ How Will Your Input Be Used? Your responses will help shape a collaborative workshop on inclusive participation in NbS and contribute to a publication aimed at influencing policy to promote more inclusive NbS practices.

Thank You for Your Participation! By sharing your experiences, you are helping to create a more inclusive approach to NbS. Please feel free to forward this survey to other experts in your network.

Take the Survey Now: Survey: Fostering inclusive engagement in co-creating nature-based solutions | Ecologic Institute Forms

Deadline: 16th August 2024

Thank you for your valuable contribution!

Best regards,
