Funding Calls Extension - Update
We have extended our deadline for the ‘Secondment’ and ‘Workshop’ Calls.
These are two great funding opportunities available through the RECLAM Network Plus. Find the Workshop Application here (Deadline 20th Jan 2023) and Secondment Application here (Deadline 3rd March 2023).

Urban Greenspace and People Call
The RECLAIM Network Plus recently put out a call for gap filling research in the area of green-blue-grey infrastructure (GBGI). The call attracted a very positive response receiving a large number of proposals right across the GBGI spectrum. The network is delighted to announce that the following institutions have been successful in applying for funding:

*Leeds Beckett University
We look forward to keeping an eye on how these GBGI projects develop in the coming months and year.

We launched the RECLAIM Network Webinar Series in May 2022. It will consist of 18 one-hour online sessions, once per month, until March 2024. Each session will have 2 speakers, each speaking for 20 minutes, with time for a Q&A afterwards. All the webinars are recorded to make it available for viewing on demand.

Meet the RECLAIM Network Plus Team
Dr Nerea Calvillo is a Co-PI for RECLAIM Network Plus.
Nerea’s work investigates the material, technological, political and social dimensions of environmental pollution. This has led her to analyse notions of toxicity, digital infrastructures of environmental monitoring, DIY and collaborative forms of production, smart cities, and feminist approaches to sensing the environment, among others. She is founder of the collaborative visualisation project In the Air and the architecture office C+arquitectos, and her current work is on toxic politics, pollen and queer urban political ecologies.

What’s next?
Data Synthesis Reviews…….
Leads for the 7 reviews have been meeting to fine-tune the approach we are taking to quantify the performance of different types of urban green, blue and grey infrastructure. Each lead author will shortly be building their review teams and will be reaching out to those people with relevant experience who have expressed an interest in contributing.
Finally all of the RECLAIM Network Plus team would like to wish our members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New New Year!

Urban Greenspace and People Call - Update
We received an overwhelmingly positive response to our recent Urban Greenspace and People call. Thank you to all of you that applied. The RECLAIM team enjoyed reading through some really interesting GBGI proposals. The RECLAIM Team will be in touch with everyone that applied very shortly.
Data Synthesis Reviews - Update
Following a successful Horizon Scanning Workshop the RECLAIM Network Plus team have now built author teams for a series of data synthesis reviews on the ability of green-blue-grey infrastructure to deliver a suite of ecosystem services. Thank you to those members who have offered to contribute/lead on these reviews.
The 7 topics are as follows:-
Water Flow & Quality Mitigation
Air pollution removal
Urban Cooling
Noise Mitigation
Biodiversity
Carbon stocks & sequestration
Health & Wellbeing
We are still in the early stages of conducting these reviews. If you would still like to contribute to one or more of the reviews please contact the RECLAIM team at info@reclaim-network.org to register your interest.

RECLAIM Network Plus Employment Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a part time Project Officer role to join the Global Centre for Clean Air (GCARE) Team hosted at the University of Surrey. This person will be responsible for managing a portfolio of GBGI projects including the RECLAIM Network Plus.
Meet the RECLAIM Network Plus Team
Dr Shelagh Malham is a Co-PI for RECLAIM Network Plus.
Shelagh is a reader in Marine Biology, and Director of Research, in the School of Ocean Sciences. She completed her BSc (Jt. Hons. Marine Biology and Zoology) and PhD in Octopus immunology at Bangor University. Following a Marie Curie fellowship (on oyster immune function) in Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) station in Roscoff, France and a Return Marie Curie (immunology and genetics of oysters). She was made a Research Lecturer in 2007 and a Senior Research Fellow in 2015, director of research in 2021.

‘Urban Greenspace and People Call’
Up to £40k for gap-filling research in GBGI and People
*Deadline for applications 11th November*
Meet our Second Secondment candidate
Andrea Berardi is currently Co-Director of Cobra Collective. With RECLAIM Network Plus funding Andrea will shortly be taking up a short secondment with Spelthorne Borough Council in Surrey, UK in the areas of GBGI planning and co-design.
Speaking ahead of his secondment Andrea commented;
‘After successfully contributing to the inclusion of a 'Green Corridor' policy within the Ascot, Sunninghill and Sunningdale Neighbourhood Plan - one of the first Neighbourhood Plans to explicitly include a GBGI policy - I am looking forward to working with Spelthorne Borough Council to establish a strong GBGI baseline for assessing the impacts of emerging developments, including Heathrow expansion and the River Thames Scheme.
I am especially keen to deliver an ambitious set of outputs in this secondment, including:
Developing participatory videos to showcase the community GBGI co-design process;
Producing a GBGI participatory and systemic co-design guide;
Sharing the experience of output development and the result with the RECLAIM Network while also learning from the Network's other contributors.

‘Horizon Scanning Online Workshop’
Consider areas for future funding in Blue-Green Infrastructure, assess knowledge gaps and inform synthesis

Meet our first Secondment candidate
Xizhen Huang is currently studying a PhD in Energy and Environmental Engineering at the University of Reading. The RECLAIM Network Plus will shortly be funding Xizhen to take up a 3-month secondment with the University of Surrey’s Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCARE) in the areas of urban greening and heating.
Ahead of starting her secondment Xizhen commented
“The RECLAIM Plus Network shares similar interests with my PhD study and taking up the secondment offers fresh thinking and new approaches to my research about improving outdoor thermal comfort for coping heatwaves by a green infrastructure approach. There is also a grant to cover non-salary costs”
“This is an incredible opportunity for me to work with experts in this field. I could expand horizons and increase opportunities to establish key contacts with senior managers and leaders for supporting my career development and progression”.

We have released our first call for funding for the short knowledge exchange visits (secondments) for early career participants. This is an opportunity to work with like-minded people across different sectors interested in Green-Blue-Grey Infrastructure.
The call offers funding support to foster exchanges between cities, business and academia, with emphasis on benefitting links between different types of organisation, and of early-career researchers (e.g. PhDs, PDRAs, new academics).
The RECLAIM Network Plus will accept applications on a rolling basis. Proposals will be reviewed and agreed monthly. For more info and to complete an application form please click here

The RECLAIM Network Plus will accept applications on a rolling basis. Proposals will be reviewed and agreed monthly. For more info and an application form please click here

Professor Laurence Jones is a Co-PI for the RECLAIM Network Plus.
Laurence is a senior Ecologist and group leader at UKCEH Bangor and visiting Professor at Liverpool Hope University. His work focuses on developing and improving ecosystem service models and evaluating trade-offs, particularly in urban settings.

We recently released our first call for funding for the short knowledge exchange visits (secondments) for early career participants. This is an opportunity to work with like-minded people across different sectors interested in Green-Blue-Grey Infrastructure.
The call offers funding support to foster exchanges between cities, business and academia, with emphasis on benefitting links between different types of organisation, and of early-career researchers (e.g. PhDs, PDRAs, new academics).
Given the holiday period, we extended the deadline to submit short proposals to the RECLAIM Network Team using the online form to 2359 BST Friday 02 September 2022.

We are pleased to release our call for funding for secondments for early career participants. This is an opportunity to work with the like-minded people working across different sectors interested in Green-Blue-Grey Infrastructure.
The call is aimed to offer funding support to foster exchanges between cities, business and academia, with emphasis on benefitting links between different types of organisation, and of early-career researchers (e.g. PhDs, PDRAs, new academics).
Proposals must be received by the RECLAIM Network using the online form by 2359 BST Monday 01 August 2022. Enquiries may be emailed to info@reclaim-network.org or directly to our team member Dt Thomas Kjeldsen at trk23@bath.ac.uk

Launch of RECLAIM Network Webinar Series
We are delighted to invite you to take part in the RECLAIM Network Webinar Series. It will consist of 18 one-hour online sessions, once per month, until March 2024. Each session will have 2 speakers, each speaking for 20 minutes, with time for discussion afterwards. The webinar will be recorded and made available to the RECLAIM Network YouTube channel (link in item #2 above). Its announcement poster is attached. Our first webinar will be held on 08 June between 12.30-13.30h (UK time), with two speakers The poster attached provides further details on speakers and their talk title. The titles of two talks, as also noted in the attached poster, are:
- Right plant, right place, right purpose: Environmental horticulture research at the RHS
- Traditional versus Sustainable drainage in the UK
We aim to have a mix of speakers - academic and non-academic (businesses, environmental groups, charities, regulatory bodies etc) - in each webinar. RECLAIM Network was presented at the Northern Air Quality News Conference
Our network investigator Professor Laurence Jones presented the RECLAIM Network at the northern Air Quality News conference held on 25 May 2022. Talks at the conference covered a range of topics, and themes with strong relevance to RECLAIM were the links between solving air quality issues and carbon emissions, and involving the public as part of your solutions. This conference was well attended and represented by a wide variety of academic, non-academic and governmental organisations. What’s next?
We are working on the:
First ‘Secondments’ call which will offer funding to foster exchanges between cities, business and academia, with emphasis on benefitting links between different types of organisations, and early-career researchers (e.g. PhDs, PDRAs, new academics). The call is expected to be released sometime in June 2022.
We are also working on planning for upcoming workshops, horizon scanning studies, and the first call for feasibility studies and data collection on knowledge gaps.

Unlocking the Benefits of Urban Green and Blue Spaces - Scoping workshops
This event is organised by the NERC-UKRI. 3 workshops will be held across the week of 9–16 June 2022:

14 June 2022, China Standard Time (06:00 – 10:00 BST)
16 June 2022, Eastern Time (15:00 – 19:00 BST)
